It's better than the welcome hall. We always have hot water, it's quieter, no one bugs you if you're up late... she cooks.

Connor leans back in his chair as their coffee shows up, then fusses with a sugar packet.]

Any specific questions I can start with?

[ he's working on that. sort of. ]

How'd you meet?

[ let's start with the basics. ]

We're both in Hel. When I got here the house was really small, she'd turned into the welcome wagon for being there the longest.

Neither of us were dealing very well with losing our abilities.

[helps]

Right. That makes sense.

[ a pause. ]

Abilities? Is she... [ he doesn't really know how to phrase it delicately, but "not human" is what he's going for here. ]

[Connor seems amused again.... You're so obvious.]

She's human. But not all the time-- she's a shapeshifter.

Oh. That... must come in handy.

[ not really an answering he was expecting. ]

It did. They took her shifting, she's stuck in her real body here.

Oh. Right. So what does she have here?

Shadow control, same as me but really advanced.

Doesn't really seem like a fair trade.

No, and I don't think it's fair to take strength and speed and healing and my senses from me. Even in the time I didn't know I was 'special' I relied on it constantly. Guess you don't realize stuff like that til it's taken away.

Pretty much, yeah.

[ it hasn't taken a huge toll on angel so far, but he still has his strength. ]

I didn't really think of it that way... but you seem to be doing alright. Even without the powers.

[ for a second it looks like he still intends to ask... before just dropping it and sipping his own coffee. ]

This is just the first chance I've had to really try and sort through... [he gestures at his head] You guys got an extra year, I got an extra eighteen.

Yeah, that was probably... tough.

[ he's never really had to talk about his own decision to have connor's memories written, so it's not exactly something he knows how to talk about. ]

Everything's still fine though, right? Up there.

Not... unpleasant.

It's a pretty even split between pleasant and as unpleasant as possible. Back home it was easier to just focus on what I needed to, you know? Asgard gives you a lot of free time.
